Chapter 10: Understanding Work Teams

“What’s gonna work? TEAMWORK!” Chapter 10 is about understanding teams in the workplace and how effective they can be. Dairy Queen encourages teamwork to help get products out to customers quickly and correctly. The people on the clock at any time work together as a work team so performance is better for everyone rather than leaving coworkers to do it alone at a less beneficial pace and quality. Each employee is empowered so they know everything that needs to be done or can be done while on the clock and so one person can step in to assist another if there is an issue or worry. The workers will take into account the abilities, moods, and personalities of everyone available at a given time and place them in the most effective positions for that time which keeps employees happy and the atmosphere positive and efficient. When things are going well due to the choices and roles that people are making and completing the mental model of each employee is boosted to a positive place and they work even better and support each other more. If things get rough, the more experienced jump into action and fix the situation and get everyone back on their feet. It’s this teamwork that keeps the workplace of Dairy Queen not only functional but also enjoyable and inviting.
